- Know your audience
How do you make good content if you don’t know who you’re talking to? Here’s a good saying with marketing – If it’s addressed to everyone – you won’t get anyone. People like to feel special. The demographics of your target audience will help define the type of content you post, your brand voice, and even what days and times to publish.
- Posting videos!
Videos are eye-catching. People love watching them, especially if they’re relatable, funny, or something that they want to see more of! Videos also receive 38% more engagement than images! Anther tip – Don’t overthink it: video content doesn’t have to be overly polished or perfectly edited. (Authenticity! People love it!) Shoot now, give it a quick edit, and get it out into the world. This is a great way to grow your instagram engagement with your followers.
- Posting carousels
Now be careful with these and make sure each photo is as great as the last. Carousels give you 3x more engagement than usual posts.
- Share audience content
It’s tempting to treat your Instagram account like a one-way street, but social media is a conversation, not a broadcast. Make sure you’re listening and engaging with fans when they reach out. If someone tags you in something – put it on your story even if it’s completely unrelated to your service or brand – people will like the nice break.
- Better to be relatable than perfect.
On social media, it’s better to be honest and relatable than perfectly polished. Share content that goes beyond your slick marketing campaign to introduce the real people and experiences behind your brand. That might mean sharing behind-the-scenes footage in an Instagram story, writing a caption that reveals a cheeky sense of humor or taking ownership of any mistakes.
- Respond to All Comments
I hope this is an obvious one. Acknowledging your commenters and participating in conversations makes followers feel seen and heard, and excited to chat with you again in the future. So please do this.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE: Always respond positively – if you respond negatively to a comment on your posts this will not look good at all. If someone has made a negative comment on your post, you have the option to hide the comment, delete it or ignore it. Do not bite back – it makes you look unprofessional and immature.
- Post at strategic times
When do people check their social media? Probably the same times you do. When they wake up, chilling in their lunch break, secretly browsing their feed at work when the boss isn’t watching, when they get home, and before they go to bed. Yes, this is a lot. ….Use it to your advantage. Post straight away in the morning so it’s their ready for them to look at when they wake up, post just before lunch before they decide to take a scroll, post late at night, around 9 or 10 before they go to sleep. In saying this, it also depends on the demographic of your audience.
- Do hashtags even do anything?
The answer? Yes, they do. Harness the power of the hashtags grasshopper. BUT, don’t overload it. You don’t want to look desperate. Play cool. Use 10 hashtags or less. Makes you look like you’ve got life sorted, trust me. AND Make sure it’s related to the subject of your post and your business. Don’t just stick any old hashtag on it because it’s a popular hashtag.
- You can share other companies content too
Don’t be selfish. Share a little. Post other people’s articles or content. It’s a compliment to them, really, and it makes you look like a great team player. And as long as it’s good quality, people love it and will love your brand more for doing it.
- Drive traffic from other sources.
You can use your Twitter to promote your Instagram, throw something in your newsletter from your Facebook. You can do all these things and more to promote your social platforms all over the place. This can grow traffic and engagement to all your platforms.
